My Role at the YWC:
I am a Peer Support Worker/Youth Mentor on the Early Intervention stream and primarily work with youth who are experiencing newly emerging symptoms of mental health challenges. I use my personal lived experience with mental health and navigating the mental health system to support my peers in building language around talking about their experiences and in discovering their own personal journeys in recovery. I believe we are experts in our own lived experience and advocate for youth to decide for themselves what is and is not helpful for them at this time. This includes flexibility around accessing support, reducing barriers, as well as harm reduction approaches to substance use, and overall wellness. I am also a Peer Mentor on the Youth Council and Everyone Thread’s as I support and encourage our young leaders to share their lived experience in supporting our community.
